Why BIM is a Necessity for Manufacturers Part 1/4

In these challenging times, it may seem that cutting non-essential expenses is the best strategy for survival. Marketing and sales support are often seen as budget elements that should be reduced during a crisis – but this is a significant mistake! Check out why BIM for manufacturers is a necessity.

A historical review shows that organizations maintaining or increasing marketing expenditures during a crisis emerge from economic slowdowns with a much stronger position.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) Objects, or in Polish – biblioteki BIM, obiekty BIM, Rodziny BIM, komponenty BIM… all these terms are synonyms and refer to digital 3D models supplemented with metadata. It is the data, or “I” as in Information, that is crucial for BIM objects because the information contained within them determines their future usability.

Digital transformation in the construction industry offers a wealth of new promotional opportunities for building component manufacturers. Digital technology is changing the construction environment sector. Specifically, Building Information Modeling (BIM) enables collaboration and easy data exchange throughout the supply chain.

As a result, both designers and other stakeholders in the investment process increasingly demand digital versions of building products, both general ones that mainly convey geometric information and those from specific manufacturers containing specific metadata.

To meet this demand, manufacturers need to provide digital versions of their products. With BIM, manufacturers can access new sales channels – a wonderful opportunity that some have already seized.

Introduction – Ongoing Digitalization

The construction industry is finally ceasing to resist the “digital revolution” affecting most aspects of human existence. From concept preparation and building design to infrastructure development and subsequent asset management, the construction environment industry is being transformed by new and emerging digital solutions.

The construction industry is finally ceasing to resist the “digital revolution” affecting most aspects of human existence. From concept preparation and building design to infrastructure development and subsequent asset management, the construction environment industry is being transformed by new and emerging digital solutions.

Resisting the rising wave of digitalization is futile. Technological innovations will be developed and even accelerated, and organizations will sooner or later need to adopt them. Building product manufacturers who do not meet growing demands may experience a decreasing market share.

The UK government has long recognized this. For this reason, they decided to publish standards ten years ago, and in 2016, they introduced the mandatory use of BIM methodology at “Level 2” for all new public sector investments. Recent years’ experiences show that this was a step in the right direction, and UK construction companies are expanding their competitive advantage globally. The potential benefits of this strategy are enormous.

BIM for manufacturers is a necessity

Some building product manufacturers view BIM as a threat and a risk of additional costs. Others see BIM as a normal business expense in an evolving market, as well as an opportunity for profit and gaining new customers in an environment where one can easily become a leader in a developing market.

In the next part of the publication, you will learn what BIM is from a manufacturer’s perspective and why the world is striving to implement this solution.

We offer parametric BIM, MFG, and OBJ library creation services. Component families replicate building products used in the investment process by designers in the construction and mechanical industries. By using our services, you can be assured that your product models will be developed according to the best practices and current industry trends.
